Vuls is an interesting project that checks Linux and FreeBSD hosts for vulnerabilities as published in the NVD (or other) vulnerability database.
Vuls only notifies the system administrator for the vulnerabilities, but does not fix them.
Vuls runs on a central server, and connects to the scanned hosts via SSH. The target hosts to scan are listed in a configuration file.
